• As of version 15.20 at least, this option is available. When you have at least one cell of a pivot table selected, causing the two context-sensitive PivotTable tabs to appear on the ribbon, the Design tab has a button Subtotals with three options, one of which suppresses all subtotals.
  There is a similar button allowing control of the Grand Totals, by rows and by columns.
